Smurfit Kappa Zedek makes paradise from cardboard
During the ‘Deventer on Stilts’ event, Smurfit Kappa Zedek demonstrated the creative side of cardboard. The company invited its customers for an afternoon with the theme ‘The power of expression’.
The reason for the workshop ‘The power of expression’ was Smurfit Kappa Zedek’s sponsorship of a large event in the city of Deventer called ‘Deventer on Stilts’.
What was unique about the event was not the sponsorship itself, but the fact that the company challenged its studio to produce a creative expression (power of expression) that goes further than simply developing a packaging or display.
This led to one of Deventer’s largest churches, the Bergkerk, being covered with cardboard decorative pieces. During the theatre presentation ‘The garden of earthly delights’, the church was transformed into an alternative paradise.
In his opening word, the mayor of Deventer, Mr Andries Heidema, also praised Smurfit Kappa Zedek for taking on the challenge, as a company, of making a pact with art, which led to a fantastic creative partnership. He expressed the hope that Smurfit Kappa Zedek could serve as an example to other companies by demonstrating that sponsoring can also create a win/win situation.
