Smurfit Kappa Zedek makes paradise from cardboard

During the ‘Deventer on Stilts’ event, Smurfit Kappa Zedek demonstrated the creative side of cardboard. The company invited its customers for an afternoon with the theme ‘The power of expression’.

A floor display developed in the studio of Smurfit Kappa Zedek Münster has been awarded one of the most prestigious POS prizes in the industry.

FSC quality mark

Late last year the time had come: the awarding of the highly coveted FSC Certificate.

Not only Smurfit Kappa Zedek, but all of Smurfit Kappa Benelux can now bear the designation ‘FSC certified’.

To mark this momentous distinction, in October 2010, the company organised a contest for the various studios with the motto:

Design a cardboard bin that has the following properties:

Does not exceed the maximum letterbox size when flat and folded;
Is large enough when set up to bear a stack of newspapers, magazines and other waste paper;
Strong enough to carry this stack of paper to a paper bin in or outside the home and to empty it and use is again;
The size (in mm) when set up should be approximately: 380 x 265 x 250;
The shape of the bin should preferably be conical (thus opening upwards);
Should be attractive enough that you would want to have it in your living room or your office.
Must be strong enough that you would want to have it in your home or office for as long as possible (reinforces your image);

28 studio employees from the Benelux eventually submitted a model.
Naturally we as Smurfit Kappa Zedek are extremely proud that, of all the submissions, an employee of our studio, Richard Schalk, won first prize in the category ‘glossy design’.
